It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our mom, grandma, sister and friend Helen Elizabeth Smyth (nee Cooper) was born September 2nd, 1944, in Calgary, Alberta passed away on December 23, 2025, in Parksville, BC.
Helen is predeceased by her first husband Barry Frederick Smyth (2023) and survived by her two children, James (Char), daughters Paige and Jordyn and Patricia (Dean), daughters Madelyn and Abigail.
Helen was also predeceased by her second husband Richard McEwan (2011) and got to know and love his three daughters Joanne, Jennifer (Ansley) and Carol (Rich) and the bonus grandchildren Adam, Lauren, Jacob, Vivien and Bobby.
Helen is survived by her identical twin sister Margaret (Larry) and niece Cathy, nephews Jeff and Michael. You would often hear Helen say how amazing and lucky she was to have an identical twin!
Helen was predeceased by her brother William H. Cooper (2023) and survived by her two nieces Susan and Heather. Also survived by two additional nephews Allen and Chal Smyth.
Helen considered her best accomplishments were her two children. She felt so blessed to be a Mom and a Gramma. She enjoyed her music, piano and singing. Besides her long standing career at ICBC, she was a Registered Nurse.
Helen wanted to thank a few people, most importantly her dear sister Margaret who helped her through her illness and sacrificed her time to be right by Helen’s side the entire time, just like a twin. Thank you to Dr. Fouad, Dr. Robinson, Dr. Atwell, Dr. Marback, Trillium Hospice staff and volunteers and Dr. Hunter for her care. Helen believes flowers are for the living! Consider donations to BC Cancer and early detection of Ovarian Cancer.
