Iris Joyce Cann

We are sad to announce the passing of beloved wife, Mum and Nana, after a valiant battle with dementia.  Iris is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Ronald (Ron), son Robert (Helen), daughter Susan (David), grandchildren Victoria (Vince), Nicholas, Rebecca, sister Irene in England, daughter-in-law Fresia, numerous family and friends around the world.  Predeceased by parents Margery and Frederick Rivers, brother-in-law Jim.

 Iris was born in London, England, and survived the London Blitz with her family.  She married her “Ronnie” in 1951 and soon the family grew by two.  In 1960 we emigrated to Tasmania, where Mum immersed herself in the Girl Guide community.  Two years later we returned to England, before emigrating to Canada.  As part of Dad’s work transfers, Mum & Dad had extended stays in Australia and Spain, extensive travel, and 12 house moves, before settling in Qualicum Beach.

 Mum also worked at Zurich Insurance and CU&C, where she made many friends, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Mum enjoyed cooking and entertaining, knitting, reading, and nature.  She loved her furry companions.
