Jane Evelyn HARRIGAN

September 8, 1926 – April 8, 2017

Jane (Nana) passed away peacefully at Rainbow Gardens at the age of 90 with her loving family by her side.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Ernie; her sister Lil and her brother Peter.

Jane is survived by her devoted sons – Bob (Leigh), Brian and Jim and a daughter, Eileen – all from Port Alberni.  She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Tanya (Tony), Kristin (J.P.), Brienn (Josh), Sean and Meara; as well as her treasured great grandchildren Olivia, Jocelyn, Koen, Kaden and Carter.  Jane also is survived by a brother Dan (Edmonton, Alta), a sister Evelyn (N. Vancouver) and two sisters Irene and Roseann (Belleville, Ont.) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Saskatchewan, Jane moved to Vancouver in 1949 where she worked as a legal secretary and then met Ernie.  Shortly after, they married and moved to Port Alberni where they made their home.  Jane was an active volunteer with the Sunshine Club for many years.  She started playing badminton at the age of 68, playing until the age of 82.  She also enjoyed gardening and canning.  But Jane’s true joy came from being with the family – Jane attended all the grandchildren’s sports activities and dance competitions.  As well she loved hosting frequent family get together dinners.  Jane was the most loving and forgiving mother and grandmother.  Her strength, generosity and her smile were inspirational and anyone whoever met this lovely lady was touched.  Jane will always be remembered for her signature flower in her hair, her beautiful smile and the cheezies that she was known for sharing with all.

The family would like to thank Dr. Brown, Dr. Williams and the staff at WCGH for the wonderful care that she received; and also to thank Echo Village, where she developed some very close and special friendships – especially with Robert and Mark. 

A special thank you to Rainbow Gardens for their outstanding care and compassion; where she was treated with love, respect and dignity.  A thank you to Steven and Patty at Yates Memorial Services for their prompt and caring service.
