Judith Maureen Kusel, age 70, passed away at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on Sunday, February 12 holding hands with her loving husband of 48 years, Richard Kusel. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren; Nick, Cori, Alexa and Jaxon Kusel; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Anthony Lowe; sister, Colleen and brother, Jim Mitchell; brother-in-law, Pero Kusel; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends at home and abroad. She was predeceased by her parents Jack and Ethel Mitchell and sister Patricia Delbel.
Always crafting, creating and finding ways to decorate the world around her Judy found joy and inspiration in the humblest of things. She was an exceptionally kind and generous mother, wife, sister, teacher and friend who touched all who knew her.
She spent her early years teaching school and her latter years teaching all of us about hope and bravery. She was the truest of warriors and a testament to the strength of spirit. She will be dearly missed and forever loved.
A Celebration of Judy's Life will follow at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider honouring Judy's memory by making a donation in her name to the Canadian Cancer Society, Unit E, 777 Poplar Street, Nanaimo, BC V6E 2N7
