

Murray A. Claughton passed away peacefully on Sunday,January 29th with his wife Betty at his side. Predeceased by his parents and younger brother George, Murray and is survived by Betty;son, Kevin, and granddaughter, Meaghan. Murray is lovingly remembered by many other family members and friends.
Born and raised in Vernon, BC, Murray was involved in businesses in Calgary and Kitimat. The family relocated to Comox, where they built their dream log home. Later, Murray and Betty moved to Bamfield, BC, where they owned and operated Seabeam Fishing Resort, fulfilling a lifetime ambition. This business brought in friends and customers from all over, and extended into Los Cabos, Mexico, where Murray operated a marlin fishing charter business during the winter season. After retirement, Murray devoted much time to oil painting, and fulfilling another lifetime ambition, completing his book, a memoir and collection of stories. Murray was a grateful patient of Dr. Pedro Camacho, at the St. Joseph Cancer Clinic, who helped extend his life so as to be able to accomplish his dream: the publishing of his memoirs and life stories enjoyed by so many. The family sends a special thank you to Janet Morrison, who helped Murray edit and publish his book.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 11, 2017 , at Yates Memorial Services, 4470 Gertrude Street in Port Alberni. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Murray's memory may do so my making a donation in his name to either the to St. Joseph Cancer Clinic in Comox, or to Ty Watson Hospice in Port Alberni.
