All through his life children were Ralph’s main concern, making sure children received the best there was to offer. Ralph was a lifelong volunteer. He was a Jaycee and volunteered in many functions including the Calgary Stampede, Calgary Grey Cup Committee and was the liaison when the Cup was played in Vancouver. He coached Babe Ruth baseball in Victoria (Bruce Twamley, Norm Baker), Minor Lacrosse Saanich (Gold Medal Team Provincials Tyke Division) and Novice Division in Coquitlam.
