Mark Fletcher was born on June 16, 1953, in Denver, to Jack E. Fletcher (predeceased) and Patricia K. Fletcher (née Anderson), who resides between Washington and Arizona. Both of his parents were dedicated teachers and historians with a specialized focus on the Cherokee Trail.
Mark is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Jack, Clarke (Janet), and Christine, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins living throughout the United States.
Before moving to Canada with his family, Mark lived in Colorado and Guam, where he developed lifelong skills and passions for fishing, hunting, surfing, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Fishing remained one of his greatest joys. Many family travels included a fishing adventure and visits to botanical gardens, reflecting his love of both water and soil.
Mark began his career as a care aide in Terrace before attending British Columbia Institute of Technology to become a surveyor. He went on to build a respected career in surveying. After retirement, he treasured time spent fishing with family and friends, gardening alongside his beloved wife and their cat, Peewee, and enjoying winter months in the warmth of Mexico.
Mark passed away peacefully, surrounded by kindness and love. His family extends heartfelt gratitude to the cancer clinics in Victoria and Nanaimo, the Port Alberni Palliative Team, Shay from Ty Watson House, Dr. I. Nel, and Dr. Woodley for their compassionate care and support during his battle with cancer.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mark’s memory may be made to the North Island Recovery Centre.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his steady presence, generous spirit, and enduring love of nature.
