Ronald Dodd slipped the surly bonds of earth on March 7, 2026. Born in 1939, weeks before hostilities began in WWII, he grew up in the farming community of Creston, British Columbia. His early life included several hardships, but strong friendships and the end of WWII saw the family through those difficulties. Following high school graduation in Centralia, Ontario, he studied political science and English at the University of Manitoba. There he met his future wife, Carolyn, the love of his life.
Flying was Ron’s other passion. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force for 25 years and subsequently worked as a commercial airline captain until his retirement. He saw the world, met dignitaries of all sorts, loved the 747, and had incredible stories that built family lore.
Ron, Carolyn, and their children also enjoyed a myriad of
family adventures living and traveling from coast (Nova Scotia) to coast (British Columbia) to coast (NWT) and parts in between. They also hopped off the continent for a three-year stint in Lahr, Germany.
In 1993, Ron returned to his British Columbia roots. He and Carolyn built a home in Nanoose where the family gathered for laughs, adventures, and debates around the dining room table. He enjoyed community volunteering, camping, fly-fishing, and a proud and respected member of the Masons and Gizeh Shrine. Singing bass in barbershop choruses and with his quartets (Serendipity & F.R.O.G.S) filled many happy hours.
Ron was predeceased by his parents Arthur Dodd and Agnes (Nan) Dodd. He is survived by his wife Carolyn; children Tracey (Siva) and Gordon (Angela); and his grandchildren, Jordon, Eric, Gabriel, and Grace. His beautiful bass voice and shortbread cookies will be missed.
A celebration of life and reception will be held at Yates Memorial Services in Parksville, B.C. on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Veteran’s Transition Network or a charity important to you. Contact [email protected] if you need details for the livestream link
