It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Stan “The Book Man”. He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer; sons, Sean (Nancy), Stacy (Katy), Eric (Tiffany), and David. Missing their grandpa are Jonah, Christopher, Kalen, Connor, and Teesha. Sadly, Stan will miss the birth of his fifth grand child “baby Wallington”.
Stan and Jennifer started Fireside Books in Parksville in 1990. He loved going to estate sales to pick up his book treasures and spent a lot of time browsing the SOS where he became known to the staff as “The Book Man”. He was always one to tell stories, everyone loved them.
Stan was born in Hamilton, Ontario. He was proud of the fact his family started a lodge in Timmons, Ontario - a lodge he and his parents built together. Stan would tell us many humorous stories of his past; quite a few of which we heard over and over, but we didn’t mind. Our friends would always love to hear his stories.
Stan had a quirky sense of humour that his sons inherited so any family get together was a fun night. He was proud of his boys, and dearly loved all the grand children.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care nurses who took wonderful care of Stan in his final days. Also, thanks go out to the doctors and nurses from emergency who helped with Stan for the past 2 years. Special thank you to Dr. Noble.
A Memorial Service will be held at Yates Funeral Chapel, 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Please consider honouring Stan’s memory with a donation to the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
