Timothy P. BARKER

April 6, 1940 – November 16, 2013

Tim was predeceased by his father Arthur, mother Clare, and brother Arthur Jess.  Tim’s loving spirit is greatly missed by his wife Valerie, children:  Jennifer (Matthew Stevenson) of San Jose, CA, Jess of Port Alberni, and Amy of Nanaimo, and his two grandsons, Bronson and Edmund Stevenson of San Jose CA; as well as his brother Carl, sisters:  Julie (Karel Dostal), Ellinore (Bill Gilbert) and Susanne (Les Peterson) along with extended family and all of his nieces and nephews.

Tim was born in Vancouver and joined the Air Force in his late teens.  He was stationed at various bases in Canada and particularly enjoyed his time in Europe.  In the Alberni Valley he worked at Somass Mill for 28 years retiring in 1999.  He was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed his Tuesday nights at Echo Centre with Larry as his partner for many years. 

We wish to sincerely thank our Home Support Team, all the Nurses, especially Jackie and Dianne for heading up his care and handling so many details for us, the care workers who helped Tim each day and the staff at Ty Watson House for their exceptional care during his “summer vacation” there.  And our gratitude to the faithful Hospice volunteers, Sandy and Don who visited Tim weekly, and all the rest of the Hospice team that helped our family in so many ways.  If you wish donations may be made to Alberni Valley Hospice Society, 2649 2nd Avenue, Port Alberni BC V9Y1Z8 or a charity of your choice.

Tim was a loving, supportive father and caring husband who brought laughter to all who knew him and embraced living “one day at a time”.

Cremation has taken place.  A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
