Rick is with us in his passion of artistic photography http://www.rickmarotzphotography.ca/ -- award-winning, creative images showing our world, our landscapes, through keen and patient eyes.
Rick is with us in his buildings – the homes designed, plans drafted and bricks laid – and his Japanese-style gardens.
Rick is with us when we watch or play sports. A gentle, intelligent man with competitive spirit and love of the pure game -- tennis, soccer, hockey, figure skating and skiing were favourites, and playing tennis, ping pong and badminton kept him young at heart.
Rick is with us when we walk a beach on the Baltic Sea or B.C.’s west coast; sing a German “lied” (song) or hear Leonard Cohen; care for animals; enjoy pickled herring, “weisswurst” or pea soup; listen to CBC news or watch Knowledge Network; share a wry joke or funny story; or play a rousing board game with family.
Rick is with us when we are determined and reach for our “traueme” (dreams). He treasured his German/”Pommern” homeland and his adopted Canada, living in Burnaby, Pender Island and Qualicum Beach. He loved his “Ruthle”, took quiet pride in his family, cherished his friends and adored his dog Tasha. He believed in beauty, art, nature, honesty and integrity.
“To love is an endless art” – Rick, we love you endlessly.
Many thanks for the support of Rick’s neighbours and friends, members of the Qualicum Beach Tennis Club and the “Deutscher Singkreis”. Special thanks to the palliative care doctors and nurses, and hospice staff and volunteers, who cared for him at the end. Donations in Rick’s memory may be made to the Oceanside Hospice Society for use at Trillium Hospice.
