It is with both deep sadness and loving recognition for a life well lived that we remember William (Bill) Norman, who passed away a year ago on Nov.18, 2024 at age 82. A pillar of his family and community, Bill was known and respected as a local fisherman, handyman, builder, landlord, business owner, and longtime chairperson of the Little Qualicum Waterworks District. Bill moved with his family from North Burnaby, BC to a farm property in Dashwood at age 8. He became known as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, an accomplished tradesman, dedicated husband and father, generous friend, committed patron of the local Qualicum watering holes, prolific reader of local history (particularly anything to do with Vancouver Island), devoted grandpa, wildlife enthusiast, and a quiet supporter of various community and environmental causes. Bill worked hard all his life in pursuits he was passionate about, eventually starting a mini storage and warehouse business in Qualicum Beach that he ran until his passing. Bill was sadly predeceased by many of his family members, including his father Alex (1981), his wife Dianne (2004), his son Michael (2010), his sister Judy (2011), his mother Lucie (2015), and his partner Vicki (2019). Bill is survived by an incredible circle of great friends and extended family members, his sister Louise, his daughter Kimi, son-in-law Shane, and the two little lights of his life, his granddaughters Michaela and Willa (who miss Papa’s legendary pancakes and apple pie!). Our sincerest thanks go out to all who supported Bill in his final year, including his dedicated friends and family, Dr. El Karsh and his caring clinic staff, Island Health Home Care, and Oceanside Health Care. While a year has passed since Bill left us, our love, respect, gratitude, and admiration for him lives on.
