“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”---Ecclesiastes-3:1
Evelyn Rose Hines Ross, the chubby-cheeked little girl that our grandmother decided to call “Peachy” was born to Elsie Marie Block and Robert Burrell Hines in Brenham, Texas, on January 8, 1955.
She grew up with love, laughter, and the strength of family. Home, school, and church were her world. She accepted Christ at an early age and grew up worshiping at Mt. Rose Baptist Church in Brenham, Texas. Her elementary and middle school years were spent in Brenham, Texas. As a teenager, she relocated to Houston, Texas, and was a proud graduate of Jack Yates High School. These comprised the foundation of a life marked by grace, diligence, and compassion.
Evelyn dedicated much of her life to hard work and service. She was employed by Kmart for fifteen years and spent another twenty years working at Walmart, where her work ethic and kind spirit earned her the respect and affection of colleagues and customers alike. Her gentle smile and quiet presence left an impression on everyone she met.
Evelyn met Alvin Ross, and they were married on June 3, 1983. She was devoted to her husband and a loving mother to her children. Her greatest joy was her family. She poured love into every moment spent with them, creating memories that will live on. Her caring nature extended beyond the immediate family, touching all who knew her. She found joy in simple pleasures—movies, television, and laughter shared with loved ones. Her sense of humor, warmth, and fun-loving personality made her a light in any room.
A link in the golden chain of our family has broken once again. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie and Robert Hines, three brothers, Robert Hines, Jr., Lester Darryl Hines, and Waymond Flowers; four sisters, Carol Hines, Barbara Murray, Gladys Hines, and Corine Flowers. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Alvin Ross; her children, Richard Hines (Naunie), Adrian Ross (Christene), and Angela Ross; Grandchildren: CarDale Hines, Kyndalle Hines, Richard Hines II, Kayden Howell, Camden Ross, and Kyson Ross. Sisters: Jeane Spencer and Linda Harris (Eddie). She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry her in their hearts.
She was a quiet soul with a kind heart who left us on October 10, 2025, in the presence of her loving husband. Her earthly journey, one of quiet strength, enduring faith, and unconditional love, was complete, but the glow of her spirit remains to remind us of the life she lived.
Don't weep at my grave,
For I am not there.
I've a date with a butterfly
To dance in the air.
