Gloria Jean Williams Buchanan, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by her beloved husband and all her children. She was 77 years old.
Born on October 21, 1946, in Nashville, Georgia, Gloria was the cherished daughter of Carl Clinton Williams and Helen Jenrette Williams. From a young age, Gloria exhibited a kindness and warmth that endeared her to everyone she met, traits that she carried with her throughout her life.
Gloria was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where her unwavering faith and dedication to her Savior were evident in all she did. She will be remembered for her kindness, love, service, hearty laugh, and infectious smile. Her loved ones are comforted that she left this life in full embrace of the hope of eternal life with her family and her Heavenly Father.
In 1961, Gloria married the love of her life, William “Carl” Buchanan, Jr. Their 62 years of marriage were filled with love, laughter, tears, and hope, signifying a true partnership. Together, they built a family that became the cornerstone of Gloria's life. She was the proud mother of three children: Brian Michael Buchanan, Byron Miles Buchanan, and Lori Jean Buchanan Frazier-Murphy. Her family expanded to include ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Gloria is survived by her adoring husband, William “Carl” Buchanan, Jr; her sons, Brian Michael Buchanan and Byron Miles Buchanan; her daughter, Lori Jean Buchanan Frazier-Murphy; and her grandchildren, Brittany Buchanan, Spencer Buchanan, Nicholas Buchanan, Jonathan Buchanan, Kara Murphy Choi, Bailey Buchanan Matheson, James Ketchum, and Emma Buchanan. She also leaves behind two great-grandsons, Beckett Alexander Buchanan and Benny Grayson Buchanan, and her beloved sister; Mamie Diane Williams King.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Clinton Williams and Helen Jenrette Williams; her brothers, Robert “Bobby” Williams and Richard “Ricky” Williams; and her three grandsons, Brian Michael Buchanan II, Joshua Paul Frazier, and Grayson Miles Buchanan.
Gloria's love for her church was evident in the many callings and positions she held throughout her life. She served as a Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout leader, Blazer leader, nursery leader, and in multiple Relief Society presidencies. Her dedication to service and her faith were hallmarks of her life, inspiring all who knew her.
In addition to the service to her family and church, Gloria had a diverse professional life. She worked in real estate and insurance and excelled as an Avon representative, earning awards and prizes as a top seller in 1983. Gloria was also an accomplished artist, creating many beautiful paintings.
Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1802 Gunwale, Houston, Texas, on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park in Pasadena, Texas.
Gloria's life was a testament to her faith and her love for her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew her. "Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord." (Matthew 25:21)
Rest in peace, Gloria. You are loved beyond measure and will be missed dearly.
