She was born in Durango, Mexico, on November 17th, 1925 to Pedro and Sylvestra Flores Castro. She was raised humbly and grew to know the value of saving money to help her family. As a young girl she would listen to American radio and tried to learn the language. Her dream of coming to America came true when she was 23, after working there several years she met her husband, Bill, a solder stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Their romance was interesting considering neither knew each other’s language but love seemed to overcome that barrier. After only 13 yrs of marriage she was left a widow with 3 small children to raise, she learned to drive and preceded to work 3 jobs to provide for her little family. Among her many jobs was as a seamstress where she made numerous wedding dresses as well as formals and her cooking was also known throughout the community. She went to college and received her Associates degree in Dietary. During her lifetime she retired three times and finally for the last time at 92. Her work ethic was incomparable and she influenced everyone she met with her tenacity, won their hearts with her wonderful smile and infectious laugh. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
