Miranda Sue Coston Ward Sartain, of Waco, passed away on June 28, 2023, at the age of 72. She was born in Houston on June 7, 1951, to Miranda and Henry Coston. Sue attended Milby High School and graduated in 1970. She dedicated her professional life to helping others, working at Houston Child Guidance Center and DePelchin Children's Center in Houston for 29 years. Later, she joined Elite Therapy Center in Waco.
Sue’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She grew up in Broadway Baptist Church and became a long-time member of Sagemont Church, where she sang in the choir. Her love for singing extended to gospel music, which she shared with her high school sweetheart and first husband Al. Al proposed to her over the phone while he was on the road, and she liked to tell the story of a preteen Mark Lowry begging her to marry him and not Al. Once married, they traveled all over Texas to use their talents to uplift others for many years.
In addition to her love for music, Sue enjoyed cooking and found creative outlets in crafts, floral arrangements, and home décor. She was very generous and had a passion for shopping and a big personality with a sharp sense of humor, which she maintained in her final days.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Henry Coston, and her husbands Al Ward and Mike Sartain.
She is survived by her daughter Amy Ward; stepson Jeff Canterberry and his wife Allison; grandsons Logan and Lawson Canterberry; sister Trudy Bullock and her husband Buddy; sisters-in-law Dee Potter and her husband Rick, and Jane Woods and her husband Les; brothers-in-law Jim Sartain and his wife Debbie, and Bob Sartain and his wife Pam; many nieces and nephews including Troy Bullock, Mark Bullock, Layna Hamon, and Lindsey Potter; and numerous friends.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Pat Willis, a beloved friend and caregiver, her nephew Kerry Pickett, and the caring teams at Visiting Angels and Community Healthcare of Texas - Providence Hospice.
A private graveside service for the family will be held at Grand View Memorial Park in Pasadena, TX. Memorial gatherings in Houston and Waco will be announced in the coming weeks to celebrate Sue’s life.
