She was born in Johnson City, Tennessee on December 28, 1932 to James and Laura Smith. She was married to Alvin Morris Austin Sr. for 42 years. Norma had a career in food service for Dobie High School for 10 years and had other various odd jobs.
She had a passion for her family, reading, and gardening.
She is preceded in death by husband Alvin Morris Austin Sr., James (father) and Carrie (step-mom) Smith, mother Laura Shell and brother and sisters.
She is survived by her son Alvin M. Austin Jr., daughter Cheryl Austin, daughter Melanie & husband Tom Scott, nephew Aaron Fairchild, niece Gail Waldrop, and nephew Richy Grant.
