Robert, known to family and loved ones as Bobby, was born November 20, 1962 in Hawthorne, California. His father moved the family to Texas a few years later and they settled in Jacinto City. Robert graduated from Galena Park High School in 1981 and joined the Houston Police Department. After a brief time, he decided to join the Air Force. He served honorably in the Air Force and the Army before serving with distinction in the Texas Air National Guard. He served several tours of duty in Kuwait, Iraq and Bosnia. He worked at Joint Reserve Base Ellington for over twenty years with the 1-149th Attack Battalion overseeing the maintenance of Apache helicopters. By the time of his retirement in 2015, he had earned the rank of Master Sergeant.
He was an avid lover of Star Trek and all things concerning space exploration. He was proud of our nation’s space program and would vigorously debate moon landing deniers on Facebook. He also loved classic cars and restored his own classic vehicles. He enjoyed attending car shows and usually showed one of his own treasured vehicles. He was knowledgeable on a range of subjects. If the family had a question about something, we would say, “Bobby would know.”
He will be deeply missed by his surviving siblings, Elizabeth, Frances and James as well as by his former wife Ana Maria Quinn, with whom he remained good friends. He will also be greatly missed by his best friend Kim Hinshaw, a fellow GPHS graduate. He is survived by a niece and nephew, and many great friends and colleagues.
