Obituary

Anna passed away at her home in Paso Robles on September 30, 2015. She was born in El Paso, TX on September 8, 1925 to Pedro Alvarado and Petra Lujan, both from Mexico. Before moving to Paso Robles in 2011 Anna was a 51 years resident of Monterey Park, CA.

Anna was a payroll supervisor for Blue Chip Stamps for 25 years and Figgie International for 9 years. While working full time she volunteered at all of her children’s schools including Sacred Heart of Mary High School, Cantwell High School and Marian School in Montebello, CA.

After her retirement in 1994 Anna volunteered to serve senior lunches at First Methodist Church in Monterey Park. She was also active with the Friendship and Senior Affairs Clubs in Montebello, CA. For over 15 years, Anna was a member of the Los Angeles Monterey Park (LAMP) Optimist Club serving as the club’s treasurer for many years.

Anna was also a docent for the Monterey Park Historical Society Museum coordinating the school children tour program. She served as a Commissioner on the City’s Historical Commission. She assisted the Monterey Park Police Department by participating in the Monterey Park Senior Citizen Patrol. But the organization closest to her heart were the 8 years she volunteered for Maryvale Orphanage where she fund raised, assisted in their rummage sales and packaged Christmas gifts for the economically disadvantaged.

Her extensive volunteerism was recognized in 2003 by Congressman Adam Schiff who named her as one of the Woman of the Year for the 29th Congressional District.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband Jose Gutierrez. She is survived by three children: Dennis (Margarita) Gutierrez, Jeff Gutierrez and Carolina Gutierrez Sarceno; four grandchildren: Tony (Kris), Agustina (Tom), Rebecca and Alex; and two great grand children: Adam and Eve.
