

Arnold or "Roy" as many of his family and friends knew him by passed on to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 14, 2021 surrounded by his family. Roy was the first of three children born to Ronn and Eileen Gobbell and moved around the state of California for many years due to his dad's employment. After a few years the family settled in seaside, California where Roy would attend school until his junior year in high school when he end up leaving and joined the Navy.
Following graduation from boot camp in 1958, he received orders to report to the U.S.S. Ranger (CV-61) where he served for two years and became a Gunners Mate Guns (GMG) small arms technician. He then transferred to the U.S.S. Coral sea (CV-43), it was during his time on the Coral Sea that due to his rating and what was going on in Vietnam they assigned him to the recon team onboard the ship and became the ships armory LPO (Leading Petty Officer) all the while completing his G.E.D. as he had promised his parents.
After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned home and worked a couple miscellaneous jobs until he was hired on at Atascadero State Hospital as a psych tech in May of 1964. It was while working at ASH that he met Janet Estrada. The two started dating, on their 3rd date Roy proposed and three months later they were married on October 29th, 1964.
In 1969 he was accepted into the cuesta college nursing program in San Luis Obispo and after two years received his A.S. in nursing and promoted to R.N. and would spend the next 34 years working at Atascadero State Hospital and retiring in 2002 as the hospitals nursing coordinator.
After his retirement, Roy and Janet enjoyed going to different casinos. In Nevada and California as well as hunting and fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who he adored and loved very much.
Roy is survived by the love of his life for 56 years Janet, son Mike (Tina) Gobbell, grandchildren Cory and Kaylee Gobbell, brother Ray (Belinda) Gobbell, sister Iowna Reinhardt, brother and sister-in-law John & Ruth Texeria; and the many friends he made throughout his wonderful life.
