

Carolyn was born in Des Moines Iowa in 1934 to parents Newton Wesley Klooze and Pearl Esther Mohr. She was raised by her adoptive Aunt and Uncle Joseph J. and Gladys L. Ray of Dekalb IL. Carolyn met the love of her life Clifford Gene Thurber and they were married in 1955. They moved to Southern Ca. in 1960 and settled in Lakewood. It was there that they raised four boys. Carolyn was a Housewife, a Cub Scout Den Mother, actively supporting her boys through Scouting. She took her boys to church regularly and was a member of Crossroads Community Church in Lakewood. She taught her boys to do chores at a young age. As parents, they supported their younger sons in the Lakewood Pop Warner Football program.
Carolyn enjoyed bowling, camping and traveling. She worked as a secretary in the Bellflower Unified School District office for over 10 years retiring in 1986. She moved to Lake Nacimiento in 1987 with her husband Cliff. There she worked as secretary for Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home for 10 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their 5th wheel trailer across country visiting sites and relatives along the way. Traveling to Alaska and a Hawaiian Anniversary cruise were also on the itinerary.
Carolyn also accompanied her husband Cliff on a Korean War Veteran revisit trip to South Korea. They were Founding members of the Estrella Warbirds Museum and attended many air shows before and after retirement. Carolyn was also a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church in Paso Robles and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Aux. #10965 in Paso Robles for many years.
Carolyn is survived by her sister Jocelyn Diane Klooze Hirt of Largo, Florida, by her sons Clifford Gene Thurber Jr., Charles Joseph (Cheryl)Thurber, Cris James(Dawna) Thurber, Corydon Newton(Lorraine) Thurber as well as 9 grandchildren: Amy, Jonathon, Tiffany, Danielle, Kristin, Corynne, Jacob, Bryce, Alyssa. 7 great grandchildren: Mason, Ethan, Carmen, Zaeden, Cassius, Connor, and Ashtyn.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Clifford Gene Thurber Sr. and her granddaughter, Jennifer Beth Thurber.
Family requests that in lieu of flowers; donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
