

Charlotte Jean Smith, 54, of Paso Robles, California died on March 5, 2021. She had lived in the Paso Robles area for the past 5 years with her mom, Julie Callahan and her stepfather, Chester Patrick Callahan. Her father, Patrick Smith, would come out to visit two to three times a year from his hometown state of Texas. Her younger sister, Janeen Murphy, a long- time resident of Paso Robles, along with her husband, Tom, and daughter, Isabelle Murphy lived near her. She will be dearly missed by her long-time companion, Nick Schaefer.
Charlotte was born on January 15, 1967, in Lansing, Michigan, the eldest of Julie Callahan and Patrick Lee Smith. She attended East Lansing schools and she graduated from East Lansing High School in 1985. She attended and graduated from Lansing Community College with a degree in photography in 1993. She worked a variety of jobs throughout her life, but her true love was working as a Vet Tech when she lived temporarily in Paso Robles, California from 2004 to 2005. She had no children but the animals she adopted throughout her life became her children.
She is survived by her mom, Julie Callahan and stepdad, Patrick Callahan of Paso Robles, CA; her dad, Patrick Smith and stepmom, Michele Smith of Austin, Texas; her younger sister, Janeen Murphy and her spouse, Tom Murphy of Paso Robles, California; her older sister Tricia Simmons of Indiana and her stepbrother, Ray and his wife, Christie Callahan of Grand Rapids Michigan. She is survived by Uncle Michael Morse, her Uncle Bill Smith and her aunts Sue Tomko and Lynne Edin. She is also survived by her nephew, Daniel Murphy and his spouse Paulina Murphy of Phoenix, Arizona, her nieces: Isabelle Murphy of Paso Robles, Erin Tate of Indiana, and her nephews Raymond, Blake, Trevor, Zac and Jacob Callahan of Michigan.
She was predeceased in death by Thomas Callahan of Michigan, 1995 and by the deaths of her grandparents and many cousins throughout the years. She will be dearly missed by her extended family members scattered throughout the United States that include the Smith Family, Morse Family and White Family. She will also be dearly missed by her lifetime friends mostly living in Michigan and Minnesota.
A small family memorial gathering will be held on March 21st at Cayucos Pier in California and another will follow in her hometown of East Lansing, Michigan, on June 5th. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made in her name to the Woods Humane Society of Atascadero.
