Christine A. Hirschler

Christine A. Hirschler, 97, of Paso Robles, Calif., went home to her Lord on July 9, 2016. Christine was born in Graham, Texas. When she was a small child, the family traveled across the West Texas plains in a covered wagon to Meadow, Texas. A short time later, she moved with her family to the Lockwood area of California, where she was active in school music and sports, with a passion for tennis. In 1938, Christine married Edwin Hirschler of Paso Robles. During a 30+ year career she served the local children in Paso Robles Public Schools, beginning as temporary custodian at Paso Robles Primary School, (later Marie Bauer Elementary). She retired as Head Custodian at Bauer Speck School. Her influence on the children of Paso Robles over the decades is immeasurable. She treated every child as if they were her own, and many called her "Grandma." She was beloved by the children, and her co-workers, teachers, and administrators. She had an answer for every problem or situation, for students and staff alike. Her smile, reassuring words, and determination could turn any crisis into another problem solved. To honor her service and devotion to "her children," May 21, 1981, was declared "Christine Hirschler Day" at Bauer Speck School, which was to be observed for many years to come. She also served as Chairman of Pleasant Valley School Board, President of local California School Employees Assoc., and as an officer in Paso Robles PTA and TOPS Club. Christine was preceded in death by parents Posey and Iva Bower, husband Edwin, son Robert, and siblings: Bessie Atwell, Florene, Katherine, Posey Jr., Ralph, and Donald. She is survived by her adoring family, daughter Patricia Brown of Paso Robles, grandson Timothy Brown (Kerri) and granddaughter DeAnna Miller of Paso Robles, granddaughter Margaret "Peggy" Raybon (Eugene) of Bakersfield, nine great-grandchildren: Joshua, Jennifer, Justin, Jeffrey, Dalton, Nicole, Samantha, Corey, and Kristopher, and six great-great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 20, 1:00pm at Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home, Paso Robles, California.
