beloved wife, Starr, at his side. Jay was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on October
12th, 1973 and grew up in Pataskala, Oh. Most recently, he lived several years in
the Youngstown, Ohio area and had just moved to Johnstown, Ohio. Jay always
did his best to smile in the face of troubles and heartache and, with a friendly and
romantic personality, made friends easily and touched the lives of many. As a
youth, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He loved camping and thought of
Camp Falling Rock as his second home. He was a member of the 1992 graduating
class of Watkins Memorial High School; however, he attended his senior year at
Brookhaven High School. His years in the marching band, as well as the influence
of many loved ones, developed a love of music that followed him throughout his
life. Talented in many instruments and with a beautiful voice, he shared this gift
with many. He was also naturally gifted in the field of technical sciences and
used these gifts in his work as well as providing service for many. He spent these
last few years volunteering his service as webmaster for the Youngstown
Playhouse, where he and his wife worked side by side. With these talents and his
friendly personality, he made connections and friendships that span the world
who love him and are grateful to have had him as a part of their lives.
Jay is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Starr E. McClure and their adored
furbabies, Tinkerbelle and Shadow (Kitty Panther); his mother, Sara Ellen (Ryan)
Slack; his siblings, Amanda (Aaron) Bruckelmeyer, Julie (Shawn) Tuthill, Randall
(Melissa) Slack, and Sara Emily (Kristopher) Haley; his grandmother, Sara
(Michelhaugh) Horch as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts,

He is preceded in death by his father, Ithel D. (Buck) Slack who passed away only
two months previously, as well as his grandparents James and Beatrice (Austin) Slack, and Roger V. Ryan.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
