Ron was a graduate of Berry High School (1952) and was a student at Georgia Tech Institute of Technology until he joined the service. He proudly served in the United States Army. While on active duty, he and his beloved wife, Yvonne, lived in Chicago for one year before returning to their hometown of Rome, Georgia, to start a family. Both Ron and Yvonne eventually followed their grandchildren and settled down in Sharpsburg, Georgia.
Ron’s legacy is one of wisdom, humility, and faith. He made friends wherever he went and was cherished by all who knew him. Ron served as a deacon at multiple churches and served most recently on the altar team and prayer team at Fayette Family Church. He modeled Christian leadership with a gentle spirit for all who knew him. For Ron, God truly came first. His next priority and chief investment was his family, whom he loved dearly, followed by a desire to be a good witness to all who encountered him. Ron’s unshakable faith and his encouragement are his imprint upon his community.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Winfield Hess and Dexter May Hess (Quinton); and two brothers, Dexter Hess and Lyle Hess. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart, Iris Yvonne Hess (Mathis); his two sons and daughter-in-law, Kerry Hess, Mark Hess, and Teresa Hess (Ball); his three grandchildren, Rachel Hess, Caleb Hess, and Joshua Hess; and his three brothers and one sister, Arlen Hess, Glenn Hess, Nolan Hess, and Helene Coleman (Hess).
