He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Cindy; son, Craig, and daughter, Cassie (Derek) Boehringer; parents, Bill and Priscilla Light; grandmother, Irene Barth; brother, Joe (Chrissy) Light; grandchildren, Billy and Leeann Boehringer; niece, Amanda Light; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
David, known by family as “Randy” and by friends as “Dave”, lived a full life devoted to his faith, family, and lots of fun. His life was all about glorifying God and going on adventures. His outlook on life as an adventure was contagious. He had this way of seeing a moment and making it special. He truly treasured time spent with his grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews, his beloved parents, and his lifelong best friend – his younger brother, Joe.
Dave grew up in Altoona and Tyrone, Pennsylvania. At age 23 he embarked on a new life in Miami, FL to work as a machinist for Eastern Airlines. He met Cindy through mutual friends at a New Year’s Eve party. They were married on April 7, 1984 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Davie, FL. On June 17, 1987 they welcomed their son, Craig David, who would grow up to share his father’s great love of motorcycles. On May 10, 1990 their daughter, Cassandra Ann, arrived. Later that year Dave took on a new job at Northwest Airlines and it was time to move again, this time to Atlanta. Dave and Cindy built a home in Tyrone, GA, which in time would include a personally designed motocross track in the backyard. In January 2016, Dave began a whole new adventure of a lifetime – he became a grandpa! Dave loved to laugh and play with his five-year-old grandson, “Billy B,” and nearly two-year-old granddaughter, “LeeLee.” He worked for 18 years at Lockheed Martin in Marietta, GA, in the F-22 Raptor and F-35 programs.
The family will receive friends and loved ones for a visitation at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, GA, on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Rev. Dr. Scott Ness and the Rev. Gary Taber will officiate a private family Celebration of Life service.
