Myrtle “Evelyn” Ferguson, 87, of Fayetteville, GA passed away on November 27, 2014. She was born in Atlanta, GA on December 16, 1926 and attended school there. Her teen years were spent involved in music, playing drums in a band, and later as a “self-taught” accordion player. Evelyn spent her married years raising three children and volunteering at their schools. She purchased a 1953 jukebox that was in her basement that kids from all over East Point enjoyed. She was always the first at a neighbor’s door if help was needed. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her mother until she passed away at 90. Evelyn enjoyed being around people, and was an avid slot machine player. She loved to travel, traveling with her husband and friends to many places around the world. But her favorite place was always her Lake Hartwell home with her family, driving a golf cart full of great grandchildren to the lake and cooking for family and friends.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, J. D. Ferguson and son, Dan "Danny" Gerald Ferguson. She is survived by her son, Alan G. Ferguson and wife (Susan); daughter, Janice E. Hill and husband (Bob); grandchildren, Brian Hill and wife (Heather), Christi Hill Mullins and husband (Mark), Jason Ferguson and wife (Jennifer), Stephanie Ferguson and Mark Loudermilk, and Brent Ferguson and wife (Hope); great-grandchildren, Logyn Hill, Alyssa Ferguson, Samantha Fincher, Hayden Mullins, Joshua Mullins, Grace Ferguson, and Savannah Mullins; and brother, Harold Haney and wife (Janice).
The funeral service will be held in the chapel at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, GA on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 1:00pm. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park, GA.
Donations may be made in her memory to Flat Creek Baptist Church in Fayetteville, GA or to the American Kidney Foundation.
