Gary attended Steele Elementary, Baldwin High School Class of ’65, and Adelphi University. He began his career as an IT Specialist with Western Electric 1967-1972. He later joined Citicorp and after 26 years he retired having achieved the title of Senior Vice President.
Gary born a Methodist, converted to Catholicism in 2000, at the Easter Vigil, after 30 years of attending mass with Joanie. He was married at and faithfully attended St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre, New York. After their relocation to Georgia (up until Covid) they attended Holy Trinity in Peachtree City, Georgia.
Gary’s love for his family ran deep, and at the very heart of that was Joanie. She wasn’t just his wife—she was his world, his best friend. Anyone who knew Gary could feel the depth of his devotion to her and her happiness.
His children and grandchildren made his life complete, and this was evident in his active involvement in their daily lives—from attending field hockey and soccer games, BMX races, and horse shows, to simply sharing his love of woodworking in his shop, where he crafted the most unique and elaborate birdhouses. Those birdhouses were not just projects; they were a part of him, as were the countless other little things that Joanie dreamed up.
Gary worked tirelessly throughout his life to achieve everything he had, earning it solely through hard work and on his own merit. He lived his life by a strong moral compass—he was generous, selfless, and, simply put, a man of principle.
While he had many accomplishments throughout his 77 years, the accomplishment he spoke of most and shared with anyone who would listen was his family. His well-lived life afforded him a loving wife, three children—whom he was incredibly proud of—eleven grandchildren, each of whom he fully enjoyed and cherished, and multiple Corgis (over the years), including Nellie, who sat by him until the end. He lived a life that was rich in love, family, and purpose.
He will forever be remembered, near in our thoughts and deep in our hearts.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Jack Peckett.
