Howard Lynn Taylor was born October 24, 1951, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, to Howard Kenneth Taylor and Geraldine Joy Grace, both who have passed from this life into the next. They eventually settled in Kentucky which Howard claimed as his home state. Growing up in Lexington, he became a fan of University of Kentucky basketball. He could often be seen wearing UK Wildcats t-shirts, sweatshirts, and even slippers. While in high school, he met his loving wife of 50 years Faye Taylor. He was a Minster of the Gospel and servant of God from a young age, long before graduating from Atlanta Christian College in 1985. He particularly loved serving as a Minister of Music within the Christian Church. He loved singing and directing choirs. He organized duets, trios, and men’s quartets at each Church he called home. He later took on other ministries within the Church working with senior adults, planning day trips, workshops, and Bible studies. Howard would serve his Lord and Savior in anyway God asked of him, including being a Youth Minister and serving at Christian Camps. He was known for waking up those in his cabin with a loud Tarzan yell. God even asked him to serve as an adjunct professor for youth ministry at Central Christian College in Missouri, a task he didn’t feel he was qualified to do, but believed with God all things are possible. He was proud to tell everyone around him that his ministry was a team effort with his wife and God. Many referred to him as a “big teddy bear” due to his gentle nature. Some knew him as “Big Preach,” a nickname that stuck with him since serving with a Church in Missouri . Howard was humble, and never took credit for the work that God was doing through him.
Howard is survived by his wife Karen Faye Taylor, his daughter Amy Lynn Taylor, his son Daniel Robert Taylor, daughter-in-law Lacey Ford Taylor, granddaughter Leighla McKinley Keber, and grandson Colby Ford Keber. Howard is survived by brothers James Taylor (Lisa) and Michael Taylor (Kate), sisters Teresa Howard and Kathleen Stone (Terry) and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He considered every member of any congregation he worshiped with to be family and treated them as such.
Howard will be sorely missed by many. He was one of a kind. Go rest high on that mountain Our Love. Your work on this earth is done, we love you! Well done you good and faithful servant.
Memorial Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 27 at First Christian Church of Tyrone, 294 Jenkins Road, Tyrone, GA 30290. Ministers Billy Rowe and Jim VanWinkle will officiate.
