Joyce Elaine Dell, 84, of Peachtree City, GA passed away on January 8, 2023. She was born on June 4, 1938 at Somerset Community Hospital in Somerset, PA to the late Kathryn and George Michael Hercules.
Her family moved from Somerset to Lewistown and eventually to Altoona, PA where she attended Altoona High School. This is where she met the love of her life, Andrew James “Jim” Dell. They started dating when she was 16 years old and were engaged by the age of 18. Jim left Altoona and went to Pompano Beach, FL to start working for the printing firm of Pelican Press. Joyce stayed behind and completed her education at the Altoona School of Commerce and was employed by the Contract Department of William F. Gable Company. Jim and Joyce were married in Altoona on August 1, 1959 and moved to Pompano Beach. Joyce loved everything about Florida, especially the warm temperatures. They eventually settled in Deerfield Beach, FL where they purchased a beautiful home on a lake where Joyce enjoyed watching and photographing many sunsets. They were very involved in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, being a part of the founding members of the congregation. They met many of their lifelong friends at the congregation and kept in touch throughout their lives.
Joyce never met a stranger and always loved talking and listening to anyone. She had a tender heart and was always willing to help anyone in need.
In April of 2016, they moved to Peachtree City, GA to be closer to their family; specifically their grandchildren. Joyce loved Peachtree City, especially the change of seasons, which she had missed while living in Florida. She loved all of the fall colors and the blooming spring flowers. She never missed a chance to take a golf cart ride to pick up the grandchildren from school. Her biggest joy was her family.
Joyce is preceded by her beloved husband, Jim, who passed away on July 26, 2016.
Survivors include her son, Michael Dell (Leslie); and her grandchildren, Michael and Matt Dell, all of Peachtree City, GA; brother, David Hercules (Shirley) of Nashville, TN; and sister-in-law, Donna Luther of Youngstown, OH.
Online service will be held at the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Fayetteville, GA. Date and time to be announced.
