

Raymond Scott Davis, III, 63, of Sharpsburg, GA, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2023. Scott was born in Camp Lejeune, NC and graduated from Stafford High School in Fredericksburg, VA. He ran cross country track and was an Eagle Scout. He received his industrial and systems engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1983. He was a proud member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity and maintained a strong relationship with the Georgia Tech Chapter throughout his life.
Scott joined the United States Air Force in 1984 and became a navigator on C-130s. He remained active in the Air Force Reserves, flying his entire military career of 27 years. Scott served as commander of 357 Airlift Squadron in Montgomery, AL and received several awards and decorations including The Air Medal and several Meritorious Service Medals. He retired in 2011 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After returning to Atlanta in 1991, Scott began his 29-year career with the United States Environmental Protection Agency, in the Air Division, retiring as Chief of the Air Planning and Implementation Branch in 2020. Scott was the Senior Champion and a strong advocate for the Veterans Program at EPA. He was awarded a Distinguished Career Service Award for his contributions to EPA’s mission of protecting human health and the environment.
Scott is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Kimberly; mother, Janet H. Davis of Fredericksburg, VA; sister, Rebecca D. Brooks (David) of Fredericksburg, VA; brother, Glenn F. Davis (Maria) of Mt. Holly, NC; nephews and nieces, Kyle Brooks, Olivia Brooks, Caroline Davis, and Benjamin Davis; his uncle, aunts, and cousins; mother-in-law, Midge Taylor; and his sweet cat, Cheyenne. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Scott Davis, Jr.
Scott was an inspiration to all who knew him. A service with military honors will be held at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, GA on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 1:00pm. Visitation will be at the funeral home prior to the service from 11:00am – 1:00pm. Interment will be on December 7, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, GA.
