Robert Durward Woods

Robert Durward “Woody” Woods, age 86, of Newnan, GA, formerly of Douglasville, GA, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Robert was born on February 13, 1937 in Statesboro, GA, the son of the late Erma Burnsed Woods and Clyde Woods.

Robert was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 until 1975. After his military retirement, Robert worked for Yancey Brothers Caterpillar until his retirement in February of 1999. He also received an associate degree from Dekalb Community College before ultimately completing a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Leo University in 1986. Robert continued to work as self-employed courier for the next twenty years until 2019. He loved to travel and enjoyed driving. In his spare time, he and his wife, Linda, spent time with family and enjoyed trips to Biloxi, MS, and Cherokee, NC, to enjoy food and gambling. He was also an avid reader.

He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Linda Evelyn Woods; his son, Eric Woods; daughter-in-law, Crystal Woods; grandsons, Keegan Woods and Carson Woods; sister, Juanita Hill; and brother-in-law, Chuck Hill.

A memorial service with Full Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 in the chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, Georgia. Chaplain Charleen Smith will officiate. A reception will follow the service.
