Angel was born on March 9, 1967, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Mary Helen Avent Holliday. She later moved to Mississippi, where she would build a beautiful life full of love, laughter, and unwavering faith. It was there she met her beloved husband, Roland Harold Flanagan, Jr. Together, they built a life together raising three incredible children and creating a home that welcomed everyone like family.
Angel was a woman of many talents, and her work ethic and compassion carried her far. She earned her certification as a medical administrative assistant at Phillips Junior College in 1993 and later became an X-ray technician. Her passion for helping others and her ability to make people feel seen and heard led her into a variety of professional roles — from the medical field to a long and valued tenure at a local law firm. In 2015, Angel advanced her career and became a Provider Relations Director with First Choice Health Plan of Mississippi, where her mentorship, kindness, and leadership left a lasting mark on those around her.
Angel never met a stranger. Her smile was infectious, her laugh unforgettable, and her ability to light up a room was simply unmatched. She had the rare gift of making everyone feel like the most important person in the world. Whether you were a lifelong friend or someone she just met, Angel had a way of lifting spirits and opening hearts. She was a true confidant, a fierce encourager, and always ready to listen.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. She loved the Lord with all her heart and shared that love freely with everyone around her. She was a former member of Cornerstone Church and most recently worshipped at Move Church in Pearl, MS, alongside her children and grandchildren. She was active in small groups, helped wherever needed, and continued to grow in her relationship with God. Her faith wasn’t just something she believed — it was something she lived every day through kindness, generosity, and grace.
Angel was preceded in death by her infant son, Roland Harold Flanagan III; her loving mother, Mary Helen Avent Holliday Hoover, and her sister, Carol Jane Johnson.
She leaves behind her husband of almost 40 years, Roland Harold Flanagan, Jr. She was a proud and loving mother to her daughters Cierra Avent Abney (husband Ronald) and Jessica Suzanne Hartfield (husband Christopher), and her son Justin Wiley Flanagan (wife Morgan), each of whom she adored deeply. Her children were the joy of her life, and she poured her heart into raising them with strength, compassion, and faith.
Angel was a proud and loving Nona to her grandchildren — Piper Hartfield, Charleigh Flanagan, and Rowan Flanagan, who brought endless joy and light into her life.
She is also survived by her two beloved sisters, Joanna and Cecilie, her mother- and father-in-law, her brother- and sister-in-law, and a large, close-knit family filled with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews- all of whom she loved dearly and held close to her heart.
Angel’s legacy is one of unconditional love, faith, laughter, and generosity. She made the world brighter just by being in it, and those lucky enough to know her will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
