

Visitation will be 2:00-5:00pm, Sunday, February 25, 2018, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services are 12:00pm, Monday, February 26, 2018, at First Pentecostal Church, Jackson, with interment in Lakewood South Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
Carnell was born January 23, 1931, in Newton County, MS, a daughter of the late Walter James McElhenney and Louise Bynum McElhenney.
Carnell was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who delighted in her family.
Endowed with a true servant’s heart, Carnell dedicated her life to caring for others. She frequently took food to the sick and shut-in, and tirelessly cared for her brother and son during their final illnesses. Carnell also enjoyed decorating the church for special services and events and as well as preparing floral arrangements for weekly services.
Carnell and her husband, Coleman, were passionate about traveling, and went on several cruises and visited 49 states, only missing Hawaii.
In addition to her parents, Carnell was preceded in death by her husband, Coleman Johnson, and son, Charles E. Johnson.
Survivors include daughter, Wanda L. Williams; sister, Burma Kate Atkinson; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
