Clyde was born Saturday, October 29, 1949, in Cleveland, Mississippi.
When he began driving at the age of 16, Clyde and his father worked together to build his first race car. He was active on the Drag Racing Circuit throughout the Southeast, including Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, Texas and Alabama. Clyde’s passion for building and racing dragsters won him numerous trophies and he was well honored and respected throughout the racing community. Clyde also enjoyed building muscle cars and spending time at the dirt track.
Clyde spent more than 40 years on the road as a truck driver before retirement, although “retirement” to Clyde simply meant more time for racing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil T. Wilson, and son-in-law, Jason Grossie.
Survivors include his mother, Clydell Wilson; daughters, Cristy Grossie and Nicci Stewart; son-in-law, Roy Stewart; and grandchildren, Tylar Davis, Ian Godziszewski, Brayden Godziszewski, Matthew Stewart and Marcus Stewart.
