She was born on Easter Sunday, April 18, 1935, in Newton County, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Carl Gaines and Ida McElhenny Gaines.
Easter joined Truitt Memorial Baptist Church in Pearl in 1963 where she was active in the choir and many church activities. Easter loved the Lord and her church family, and tried earnestly to live her life as an example of Christian charity. With her kind spirit and giving nature, Easter willingly helped anyone she knew who was in need. Whether lending a hand with a task, providing a friendly ear to listen, or simply remembering them in prayer, Easter truly cared about others.
Easter had a true love for children and her motherly disposition served her well during her more than 30 year career as a bus driver with the Pearl School system.
Perhaps her favorite role was that of a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy, and she delighted in caring for them. While raising her sons she attended each of their school events, rarely missing a sports match. Later in life she relished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. And each Sunday her love would be on full display as she created bountiful family meals and gathered her loved ones in her home.
In her free time Easter enjoyed tending her garden, cooking, and baking for family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Easter was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas L. Williams, and sons, Thomas Charles Williams, and Jerry E. Williams.
Survivors include sons, Sammy Williams and wife Cindy, and Terry Williams and wife Daphne; daughters-in-law, Linda Williams, and Michelle Williams; Sisters, Annie Ledlow, and Sarah Bounds; 9 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Truitt memorial Baptist Church in Pearl.
