She was born on February 6, 1933, to Willard and Emma Harris. She grew up in the community of Cato, Mississippi which was always home to her.
Ms. Harris attended school in Johns, Mississippi and upon graduating from Johns High School, she continued her education at Mississippi College for Women and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She decided at an early age to dedicate her life to the Lord’s service through the Foreign Mission Board. Her love for the Lord led her to Nigeria, where she served as a missionary for 35 years (1960 - 1995). While there, she worked towards the development of churches and relations with villagers! Traveling to different villages was dangerous, but she trusted that God would take care of her and he did! When she retired, the Clarion Ledger did an article on her in which she stated: "One of our Baptist people told me that he had learned that the robbers on the road knew me but would not trouble me because of the power surrounding my car. I know it was the prayers of God’s people! God’s power is there even when we don’t know she said." Ms. Harris was an inspiration to all who knew her and always shared the good news of God’s love wherever she went.
Ms. Harris is preceded in death by her parents, one brother - George Calhoun Harris and two sisters - Evelyn Louise Windham and Ruby Joyce Buckley.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026, from 12:00pm-1:00pm at Cato Baptist Church. Services will begin at 1:00pm with Reverend Jack Partridge officiating. Immediately following the service, interment will be held at Salem Cemetery.
