Grace Dunn

Visitation will be 5pm – 8pm Monday, November 14, 2016 with Rosary Service beginning at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11am, Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Pearl. Interment will follow at Lakeland Place Garden Park Cemetery, Brandon.

Mrs. Dunn was born December 24, 1933, in Hazlehurst, MS, to Joseph James Raggio and Grace Augusta Hanley Raggio. She attended Shady Grove Elementary and was a graduate of Hazlehurst High School. She continued her education and graduated Mercy Hospital’s Nursing program with honors in 1954 and worked there until she married.

On December 26, 1955, she married Lt. James H. Dunn and traveled with him to Randolph, AFB in San Antonio; to Larson, AFB in Moses Lake Washington and upon his discharge to Oxford, MS. Mrs. Dunn was Director of Nursing at Oxford Hospital and from there moved to Vicksburg, MS before making Pearl her permanent home. She continued her career in nursing at Rankin General Hospital, Doctor’s Hospital and then Woman’s Hospital, where she retired after 18 years. Nursing was her passion and she knew it was her calling.

She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, whether it was for Mercy Hospital Mass Seniors, Larson AFB Chapel or St. Jude’s Church. She was an avid golfer and was a member of the Capital Ladies Golf and Bay Pointe Golf Course. She played the Bishop Cup golf tournament and mentored Junior Girls golf. She loved life, friends and most of all her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren; teaching them golf and taking them to music lessons. She was thankful to God for being able to see graduations, weddings, births, and baptisms.

Mrs. Dunn was a devout Catholic and her faith in God carried her through difficult times. She was member of St. Jude Catholic Church for over 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Dunn, Sr.; parents, Joseph and Grace Raggio; sister, Evelyn Raggio; brother, Charles Raggio; and grandchild, Brittany Ann Cooper.

Mrs. Dunn is survived her children, James Dunn, Jr. (Rhonda), Teresa Birdsong (Butch), Ann Cooper, David Dunn (Amie), and Edward Dunn (Cathy); grandchildren, Kristen Fichter (Craig), Tiffany Nichols (Graham), Brannon Cooper, Kori Breger (Tyler), Colton Dunn (Amanda), Taylor, Drew, Richie, and Will Dunn; great-grandchildren, Arthur David James Nichols and Parker Reese Breger; brother, Dr. Don Raggio; sister, Margaret Ann Awad; sister-in-law, Betty Statham (James); and many nieces and nephews.
