From the time Janis was a toddler, she was sketching and coloring; it was quite evident to her parents that she was extremely gifted in art. Janis studied courses through the art institute of Chicago in which she excelled. She was a graduate of Bogue Chitto High School class of 1963.
Most of her life and career was spent in Jackson, Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee. Janis was an accomplished artist, working in various mediums. Her expertise and talent in different areas of art was highly sought after.
While working in the photography industry, her expertise was in light oil painting of portraits, retouching, and restoration. Her greatest talent was in the painting of portraits, still lifes, and landscapes.
Janis filled the walls of her parents' home with beautiful paintings for all of the family to enjoy. She had exhibits in Memphis, Tennessee and Little Rock, Arkansas.
Janis's penmanship was exceptional, and if you received a birthday card from her, the envelope would be ornately designed in color and personalized with original designs - a beautiful work of art which we treasured.
Although Janis never had children, she had nieces and nephews that she loved as her own. When she visited, you most likely would find her on the floor with them, coloring books and crayons scattered everywhere. This is one of the fondest memories of the nieces and nephews of Aunt Janis. In later years because of her eyesight, she could no longer paint, but she never gave up sketching and sketched up until two days before she passed. We cherish those drawings.
Janis loved animals, especially her cats; she would say, "These are my babies." She gave them fitting names - Snow White, Princess Puff, Starlight, Snowball, but her favorite was Blackie Boy.
Janis was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Edith Rose Cannon Hart of Bogue Chitto, Mississippi; husband, Bernie Landrum of Pearl, Mississippi; three beloved nieces, Regina Lynn Hart and Hannah Hart Smith of Bogue Chitto and Debra Davis of Madison, Mississippi; brothers, Lloyd Hart, Wendell Hart, and Roger Hart all of Bogue Chitto and Huey Hart (wife Marilyn Smith Hart) of Lloydstar, Mississippi; brother-in-law, John Davis of Madison, Mississippi; nephew-in-law, Donald Earl Smith.
She is survived by her sisters, Syble Hart Lang (husband Roger Lang) of McComb, Mississippi, Christine Hart Smith Wright (husband Cliff Wright) of El Dorado, Arkansas, and Frances Hart Davis of Madison, Mississippi; sister-in-law, Wyonzie Smith Hart of Bogue Chitto, Mississippi; nieces, Debbie Hart Smith of Brookhaven, Mississippi, Dana Smith Coplin (husband Scott) of Dallas, Amy Smith Helterbrand (husband Mark) of Dallas, and Tanya Davis of Nashville, Tennessee; nephews, Brett Hart (wife Vicky) of Brandon, Mississippi, Stephon Hart and Doyle Hart both of Lloydstar, Mississippi, Jason Lang (wife Angel) of Lumberton, Mississippi, Jimmy Johnston of Madison, Mississippi, Kevin Johnston (wife Charity) of Mendenhall, Mississippi, Mark Lang (wife Sam) of Dallas, Texas, Ashley Wade Smith of Dallas, Texas, Todd Davis (wife Amy) of Southaven, Mississippi, Keith Davis (wife Michelle) of Madison, Mississippi; 29 great-nieces and nephews; 31 great-great-nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and cherished friends, Lori Quintana and Peggy Hux Ritz.
We are beyond heartbroken that we will no longer feel her embrace, but rejoice in the fact that she is home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as well as loving family members who have already passed away.
