Born July 30, 1927 in Tylertown, Mississippi to the late Daniel "Dan" E. Holmes and Elizabeth (Hobbs) Holmes, he was a United States Army and United States Air Force veteran and a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Pearl, where he spent his younger years in the choir. After retiring from the Mississippi State Treasury Department, his later years were spent living out his dream and love for music as a fiddler, jamming out with his bluegrass buddies. Other spare moments could find him quietly completing a game of solitaire on the computer. His loving personality and kind, sweet disposition made him a truly cherished friend as well as a treasured father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, preceding him in death is his one sister, four brothers, and beloved wife of over 60 years, Patsy Jane (Boyd) Holmes.
Survivors include daughters, Rebecca Phillips (Mike), Nancy Moore (Steve), and Patti Stedman (Kevin); son, Jody Holmes; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other dear extended family members, as well as several close friends.
Joe will be so deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor be made to Gideons International at https://www.gideons.org/donate or to Mississippi Baptist Children’s Village at www.baptistchildrensvillage.com
