Judy was born December 30, 1944, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the only child of Charles Boyd Morgan and Elizabeth Jacqueline Morgan. She spent most of her early life in Amarillo, Texas and attended college in Lubbock, Texas at Texas Tech University. She moved to Jackson, Mississippi in 1969, following her marriage to the late Donald Ray Hooper. Judy made Pearl, Mississippi her home and began to start her family.
She spent most of her life taking care of her family and children, while continuing to oversee her oil and gas assets she received from her father. In 1994, she married Melvin Wayne Perkins. They began their life in Pelahatchie, Mississippi on large plot of land for them and their family. She remained there until her death.
Judy loved adventure and travel. Throughout her years, she traveled all over the world. Her favorite place was always Texas, a place in which she still considered to be her home. Judy was an avid reader, and still went to the library weekly. She enjoyed fishing and watching the wildlife roam their land. Anyone that knew Judy knew one of her favorite things to do was socialize with her friends at Martin’s Downtown in Jackson. We find comfort knowing that Judy has been reunited in heaven with her daughter, Melissa Lynn Paxton, and her long time best friend, Dianne Hooper.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Boyd Morgan, her mother, Elizabeth Jacqueline Morgan, and her daughter, Melissa Lynn Paxton. She is survived by the love of her life, Wayne Perkins; daughter, Michelle Hooper Porter; son in law, Russ Porter; five grandchildren, Kristen Vanderford, Riley Ellis, Brooklyn Paxton, Sarah Miller, and Evan Ellis; four great-grandchildren, Kyler Vanderford, Holden Webb, Brinley Paxton, and Jaxsyn McAlpine; stepchildren, Stephanie Massey (James), Stacey Stracener (Wayne), and Jason Perkins; grandchildren, Steven Massey, Jamie Massey, Chance Massey, Polly Stracener, and Will Stracener; five great grandchildren; her beloved companion Miss Kitty; along with a host of friends.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and their shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying; neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Revelation 21:4
Below is poem written by Judy which was found after her passing.
I’m a Texan from the Golden Plain,
Where summer is hot and they pray for rain.
Winter can bring a pile of snow,
And that North wind can really blow.
Then Mississippi claimed my life,
Not long after I became I wife.
Now I have two fine girls who are grown,
With Mississippi children of their own.
For love of my family here I stay,
But my soul belongs to Texas in every other way.
