Nancy Childs Eich McGuire, homemaker extraordinaire and former early childhood educator, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 22, 2016. A visitation will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, in the Great Hall at Christ United Methodist Church with a celebration of her life to follow in the sanctuary at 12 pm.
Nancy was born on October 19, 1952, in Tuskegee, Alabama, to the late Samuel Mizell, Jr., and Edna Earle Childs Eich and grew up in Decatur, Alabama. She graduated from Austin High School and then moved on to Auburn University where she graduated with a degree in Early Childhood education. She then continued her education at the University of Alabama in Birmingham where she received her Masters in Early Childhood education. She loved teaching kindergarten while in Birmingham before starting and raising her own family.
After following her husband, Bob, around in his Navy career from Virginia to North Carolina to Florida, they settled in Jackson, Mississippi, where she became an integral member of Christ United Methodist Church and Saint Andrew’s Episcopal School parent activities. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her United Methodist Women organization where she served as President and inspired all with her quiet and determined leadership. She helped organize several fundraising efforts through UMW, but was most proud of the Tablescapes event, which raised money for mission services.
Nancy was an avid longtime fan of Auburn football and in the recent years, she developed a love for NFL football through Cam Newton at the Carolina Panthers. She always loved spending time with each and every member of her family and cherished the time she had with family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of forty years, Bob McGuire; two sons, Rob (Jackie) and Josh; two daughters, Emily (Patrick Journy) and Margaret Anne (Chris Mareina); brother, Sam Eich (Anne); sisters, Margaret Eich (Craig Morosco) and Emily Brehmer (David); sister-in-law, Marcia Franks (Tim); mother-in-law, Mildred McGuire; nephews, Blake Franks (Lauren), Sam Brehmer; nieces, Amanda Norling (Hakan), Lisa Ann Franks, and Maddy Brehmer; grand-nephew, George Norling; grand-niece, Dani Kate Franks.
