Peggy Ann Malone Moorhead, 77, of Florence, Mississippi passed away at home on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm with a Memorial Service starting at 3:00 pm. An informal burial will follow the service at Glenwood Cemetery in Richland, Mississippi.
Peggy was born on February 27, 1945 in West Point, Mississippi to William Lawrence Malone and Emmie Myers Malone from Cedar Bluff, MS. Peggy was the middle child of three siblings and a graduate of Clay High School in Montpelier, Mississippi. On April 13, 1963 she married the love of her life, Donald Moorhead.
After completing cosmetology school in 1964 and working in a couple of different Jackson salons, Peggy’s dream came true when she opened her own salon, “Peggy’s Beauty Salon”, in 1972 on Highway 49 South in Richland, MS. During the seventeen years her salon was open, several of her clients became close lifelong friends. She and her husband started their own construction company, “Custom Construction Company”, in 1976 after building their own home in Florence, MS. In 1978, they decided to expand their business adventures by adding the “Richland Home Improvement” store on the corner of Highway 49 South and Scarbrough Street in Richland, MS. After closing her salon, Peggy went to work for the Mississippi Department of Revenue in 1991. During her years there, she worked in Human Resources, Title Division, and the Petroleum Tax Division until her retirement in 2011.
Peggy had such a kind, caring, and loving heart and would help anyone in need without hesitation or question. After her retirement she spent several years making daily visits to spend time with her mother and mother-in-law in the nursing home. She was the true matriarch and backbone of her family and her greatest blessings were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved playing the piano, painting, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Gene Moorhead; her parents, W.L. Malone and Emmie Malone of Cedar Bluff, MS; father-in-law and mother-in-law, S.J. Moorhead and Lena Moorhead of Richland, MS; brother, C.A. Simmons of West Point, MS.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Bomar (Tim) of Gautier, MS; son, Keith Moorhead (Shanna) of Richland, MS; sister, Linda White (Roby) of Cedar Bluff, MS; sister-in-law, June Simmons of West Point, MS; brother-in-law, Doyle Moorhead of Richland, MS; sister-in-law, Linda Shows of Richland, MS; four grandchildren, Ryan Bomar of Gautier, MS; Erin Coker (Jesse) of Ocean Springs, MS; Ashlyn Moorhead of Richland, MS; Jasper Moorhead of Richland, MS; five great grandchildren, Kailee Coker, Anastyn Bomar, Kinlee Coker, Rylee Bomar, and Cason Coker.
