Visitation will be held Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 1pm - 3pm at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. A graveside service will be held at 11am Monday, September 19, 2016 at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6011 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, MS.
Phillip Wayne Jeffress was born November 6, 1948, to Walter Parks and Billie Doris Traxler Jeffress, who preceded him in death.
Phillip was very young when his parents divorced and spent a part of his early years living with his mother and grandmother “Mamie Patrick Hayes”, in Puckett, MS. He attended Puckett School during his time living there. When his mother remarried to Quitman “Pitts” Hinton, they moved to Pearl, MS. He not only gained a step-father, he gained a sister Ladonna Rose, who he loved very much.
Phillip attended Pearl High School and was an all-around good athlete in all the sports, but football was his favorite. He loved playing for the “Pearl Pirates” and even attended the football games well after he had been gone from school. After high school, Phillip went to vocational classes at Hinds Junior College where he was taught to be an auto mechanic. He worked several years for Blackwell Chevrolet, and later went to work at Herrin-Gear, where he retired.
Phillip had two children; Kimberly Kaye and Curtis Wayne Jeffress who he loved very much, and was very proud of. They too were “Pearl Pirates” and he enjoyed going to any of the school events they participated in. He was a proud father when he walked his daughter Kim across the football for homecomings, and supported her in other school activities as well. Phillip enjoyed watching his son Curt play football and run tract for the “Pirates”. Phillip had two grandchildren Zoe Jeffress and Gunner Jeffress who he loved very much and enjoyed the times he spent with them. They attend Pearl school too.
Phillip enjoyed many outdoors sports but one of his greatest loves was deer hunting. This is proven by all the trophy deer heads he had mounted and are hanging on his wall at his home. Phillip taught his son Curt at an early age how to deer hunt and the two spent a lot of time in the woods hunting, and fishing as well. Phillip also enjoyed hunting with his best buddies, and spent long hours talking on the telephone with them about their hunting experiences. Phillip’s other love for the outdoors was fishing. He loved it so much that no one or anything could stop him from loading up his boat and heading to the reservoir. Phillip loved to fish in tournaments and there were times when he won and that made him want to do it even more. Phillip had plans of participating in an upcoming fishing tournament, and this past week he was more likely scouting for a good fishing spot for the upcoming event. As it turned out…God had a different plan. Phillip’s time on earth was over and it was time for him to come home to heaven. We don’t know what caused Phillip to accidentally fall into the water that day…but one thing for sure….no one can deny that Phillip died doing what he loved most….and that was FISHIN! Phillip touched a lot of people’s with his passion and love for fishing and hunting, and lots of good times and memories were made with so many great friends he had.
Phillip leaves behind his two children; Kim and Curt; two grandchildren; Zoe Elene Jeffress and Gunner Jeffress, a sister Ladonna Hansen and husband Jackie, and one nephew Matthew Hansen.
