He was born on October 24, 1948 to the late Ralph Lavern Sanderson and Elsie Plunkett Sanderson in Oxford, Mississippi. Phil had a passion for helping others as a medic in the Guard and later in his retail management positions with Woolworth and more recently with Fads and Frames in Pearl. Most of all, Phil loved his family. He was particularly fond of his grandchildren and delighted in attending any event of theirs from graduations to sports games to choral concerts. Phil was a member of McLaurin Heights United Methodist Church in Pearl and was active in the Pearl Chamber of Commerce. He was also a graduate of Mississippi State University and a member of the Mississippi Gem and Mineral Society. In his free time, he enjoyed working with precious stones and was rather dextrous, most notably cutting them cabochon style into various pieces of jewelry and crafts. His other downtime activities included fishing or listening to music. He had an eclectic taste in tunes, and though he seemed to fancy bluegrass, Phil would often venture into almost any genre. He was simply a lover of music and was gifted with a talented singing voice as well.
In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his older brother, Lynn Sanderson; younger brother, Larry Sanderson; and nephew, Daniel Sanderson.
He is survived by his dear wife of 51 years, Rebecca Sanderson; sons, David Sanderson (Jennifer) and Andy Sanderson (Dawn); and grandchildren, Grant Sanderson, Ashleigh Sanderson, Becca Sanderson, and Maddie Sanderson.
