Robert Soelter Simmons died at home on February 26, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer and Parkinson's Disease. Graveside Services will be held at Lakewood South Cemetery on Friday, March 3 at 10:00am.
Robert was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 26, 1938. He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley A. Simmons, his mother, Anna Soelter Simmons, and his brother, Charles L. Simmons. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, June Connor Simmons, and numerous nephews and nieces whom he loved dearly.
Robert graduated from Pearl High School in 1955 and joined the United States Air Force in September of 1955. After serving four years, he was honorably discharged and was hired by Delta Air Lines as a refueler. He retired from Delta after 34 years as a Supervisor of Operations.
Robert began a new career selling heavy trucks, working at Jackson Volvo-GMC, Select Truck Sales, and old River Truck Sales.
In 2008, Robert retired again and spent as much time as possible on Caribbean cruises with his wife.
