Visitation will be from 5 – 8pm Monday, November 17, 2014 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services will be at 1pm Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with interment to follow at Sweetwater United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wesson.
Mr. Hammons was a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a police officer for the City of Jackson for twenty years and during that time served as Lieutenant over the motorcycle squad. He continued his career as a police officer at the V.A. Medical Center for twenty years. He is a member of First United Methodist Church of Brandon and served as lay leader at his former church.
Mr. Hammons is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lou Hammons; 10 siblings; and daughter, Debra Hammons Risher.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, of 64 years; daughter, Ronice Hammons Fillyaw (Todd); grandchildren, Lindsey Risher Vining, Landon Risher, Welsey Fillyaw and Bradley Fillyaw.
