Troy was born July 24, 1949, in Valparaiso, Florida, a son of the late Lucile Clark Hickey and J.T. Hickey.
“Firemen never die, they just burn forever in the hearts of the people whose lives they saved.”- Susan Diane Murphree. Maybe Troy never considered himself a hero, but he truly was in every sense. The lives he saved, the people he touched, the communities he served- he was a hero to them all. Troy enjoyed a lengthy career as a firefighter having started his service with the Tupelo Fire Dept and later retiring from the Pearl Fire Dept. In his free time he enjoyed fishing with family and friends and traveling with his beloved wife. Time with family was a priority to Troy and he tried to celebrate every birthday and holiday with those he loved. Troy lived life to its fullest and his love for life and others will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Rusty, Randy, Jean, Connie, and Carol.
He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Betty Jean ‘Jeanie” Hickey; sons, Frank Hickey (Kathy), Chris Hickey, and Heath Thompson; step-sons, David Hollis (Felicia), Scott Hollis (Marlo), and Brock Hollis (Gina); 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends; and his canine baby, Tippy Two.
Troy was guardian of his niece, Tammy Helms, after her mother’s passing, and his family would like to express their love and thanks to her for the help she provided during Troy’s illness. The family also extends their sincerest appreciation to the staff of Accent Hospice for their care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to an animal care/rescue organization of your choice.
