It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of a remarkable man, Charles Adebayo Balogun, on June 3rd, 2023. Born in the charming city of Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria, Charles lived an exceptional life that spanned many continents, cultures, and people, eventually settling in the great state of Texas, USA.
From the ancient streets of Addis Ababa to the serene landscapes of Bern, from the bustling hub of London to the historic Great Wall of China, Charles embraced every corner of the world with gusto. His thirst for life was an endless river, sweeping him through the vibrant streets of Manila, the grandeur of Cairo, and back to the warm embrace of his motherland, Nigeria, in the city of Ibadan.
A polymath in every sense of the word, Charles was a karate black belter, a zealous basketball player, an efficient swimmer, and a lover of table tennis and badminton. Yet, he was also an ardent tech enthusiast, meticulous, security conscious, and most of all, kind-hearted.
Charles was an adept storyteller, weaving tales from his travels with a poet's skill and a sage's wisdom. He had the rare ability to light up a room with his captivating anecdotes, from savoring exotic dishes to sharing in the simple joys of local life. He tasted the wine straight from the palm trees of Ayegunle Gbedde, ate with kings and dined with those less fortunate.
Yet, Charles was so much more than the sum of his experiences. Family was everything to him. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it.
A loving husband and father, he is survived by his wife Wumi, and three incredible children; Damola, Oyinade, and Eniola. He also leaves behind his mother Comfort and brothers, Joseph and Simon along with their families and numerous close friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
As we remember Charles today, we recall his enduring words: "Respect is the only thing that can make the coming generation learn the secrets of the world from the older generation". His legacy of respect, love, and adventure will echo through generations.
