

Rumen Garza, 87, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026.
He was born on October 28, 1938, in Wharton, Texas, to Pedro and Manuela Garza. Rumen proudly served six years of active duty in the United States Marine Corps, where he was stationed in various locations around the world. He received 2 medals for good conduct. Following his service, he built a long and dedicated career as a chemist, working for Fuller O’Brien and RectorSeal.
Rumen was a devoted husband, having shared 65 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Mary Limon Garza. Together, they built a strong and loving family that was always at the center of his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; his son, Steve Garza and wife Melinda Garza,his daughter, Timi Michelle Stanburry and husband Romando Stanburry,his brothers, Henry Rico Garza and Rudy Garza; his sisters, Angelita Arriaga and Gloria Gonzales; his grandchildren, Jordan Garza Hoglund, Ashley Nicole Riley, and Hunter Lane Garza; and his great-grandchildren, Amelia Grace Gomez, Harper June Hoglund, Elliot Roman Garza, and Wells Jackson Hoglund.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Manuela Garza, and his brother, Ernesto Garza.
Rumen was a man who never met a stranger. Quiet in nature but rich in presence, he had a way of drawing people in and making them feel instantly at ease. He was known for his humor and storytelling, always ready with a funny story that could light up any room. People naturally gravitated toward him, and he was deeply loved by all who knew him.
Above all, Rumen was a loving husband, a dedicated father, and a steady provider for his family. He took great pride in being present—whether that meant spending long nights at the football field cheering on his son or simply enjoying time together on their many camping adventures. In his younger years, he loved fishing and hunting, but his greatest joy was always found in being with his family.
Rumen’s life was a testament to quiet strength, loyalty, and love. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and humor.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
